Motion sensors and display sleep timers don't work? Issue troubleshooting.

If your interactive display (made after 2023) isn’t waking or sleeping as expected, this article helps resolve common motion sensor and sleep timer issues. For older models or unrelated power problems, see other support articles. By the end, your display should reliably wake with motion and sleep per your settings.

The motion sensor works with a sleep timer, but Android’s Inactivity Timeout can override it by putting the display into a deeper sleep that the motion sensor cannot wake from.

Before you start

  • Check that your display was manufactured after 2023 by visiting it’s support page and finding it’s specification data sheet.

  • Ensure you have access to the display’s settings menu.

  • Restart the display after any system or app updates.

Instructions

  1. Check Timers

    • Find both Motion Sensor and Inactivity Timeout in your settings.

    • If both are on, Inactivity Timeout overrides the motion sensor after its set time.

  2. Adjust Settings

    • Set Motion Sensor timer (e.g., 15 min).

    • Set Inactivity Timeout longer or turn it off for full motion sensor control.

    • On EDLA devices, Inactivity Timeout defaults to 30 min but can be turned off.

  3. Test

    • Let the display sleep.

    • Move in front to test wake.

    • Wait for Inactivity Timeout to see if deep sleep blocks motion wake.

Troubleshooting

  • Display never sleeps: Motion sensor may be getting constant events or service isn’t running. Restart after updates.

  • Display won’t wake: Inactivity Timeout may have triggered deep sleep. Disable or extend it.

  • For older displays or hardware faults, see other articles or contact support.
