Using the on screen keyboard on an Apple / MacOS

The Accessibility Keyboard is an onscreen keyboard that lets you use your Mac without a physical keyboard. It will let you type by tapping the keys on your touch screen.

You need to install a driver to use Touch functionality on Mac devices:

Enable touch on Apple / Mac laptops (UPDD driver)

Instructions: enable on-screen keyboard

Main method

  1. On your Mac, choose image-20260102-145431.png Apple menu  > System Preferences

  2. Click on image-20260102-145442.png Accessibility

  3. click Keyboard > Viewer

  4. Select “Enable Accessibility Keyboard”.

Alternative method

  1. You can also turn on the Accessibility Keyboard by clicking the Input menu in the menu bar,

  2. then choosing Show Keyboard Viewer.

    1. The Input menu is identified in the menu bar by the image-20260102-145645.png Show Emoji & Symbols icon  or, if you set up input sources, a flag.


Instructions: disable on-screen keyboard

Main method

  1. In the top-left corner of the Accessibility keyboard on your Mac,

  2. click the Close button  image-20260102-145736.png

Alternative method

  1. Go to Keyboard preferences

  2. click Viewer

  3. DeselectEnable Accessibility Keyboard”.
