Automate display setup with configurations

By using i3CONNECT Cortex, you can build a master configuration that applies automatically the moment your display connects to the internet.

This article is useful for large-scale rollouts where you want to avoid manual configuration on each individual screen. It is not intended for single-device setups where a manual walkthrough of the startup wizard is often preferred.

Creating a master configuration in Cortex

Before you unbox your displays, you need to define how they should behave.

  1. Log in to your i3CONNECT Cortex account.

  2. Select Configurations from the main menu on the left.

  3. Click the + button at the top right to create a new configuration.

  4. Enter a name (e.g., "Standard Classroom Setup") and a brief description.

  5. Navigate through the horizontal sections (matching the display's Settings app) and select Configure for the areas you want to standardize.

  6. Adjust the settings as needed.

  7. Click Save to store your configuration.

Settings that are not modified will remain in a "not configured" state, meaning the display's current values will stay active.

Installing configurations during the Startup Wizard

When the installer or teacher turns on the display for the first time:

  1. Follow the Startup Wizard steps until you reach the Network screen.

  2. Connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

  3. When prompted to Register to i3CONNECT Cortex, the display will check its serial number against the database. the person doing this for the first time needs to have a Cortex account to be able to register the display

  4. Because you pre-assigned the configuration, the display will recognize it and offer to Apply a configuration.

  5. Select the assigned configuration to download and apply all settings instantly.

Provisioning: Pre-add displays for automatic deployment

Cortex needs to know which displays belong to your organization before they even turn on.

  1. Collect the Serial Numbers of your new displays. You can find these on the shipping boxes or the stickers on the back of the units.

  2. Create a CSV or Excel file containing these serial numbers.

  3. Contact i3CONNECT Support at pm@i3-connect.com with the subject "i3TOUCH Update Request" to have these serial numbers pre-registered to your Cortex environment.

  4. Once registered, go to the Devices menu in Cortex and locate your new (currently offline) displays.

  5. Select the displays and use the Actions menu (three dots "...") to Apply Configuration, choosing the one you created earlier.

If a display is offline, the configuration will stay in a "Pending" state. It will automatically trigger and install the moment the display connects to a network during the startup wizard.

Troubleshooting

  • Configuration not appearing: Ensure the display is connected to a stable internet connection. If the serial number was recently submitted, it may take a short time to sync with the global registry.

  • Wrong settings applied: You can always update a configuration in Cortex and re-push it to the device or group. The display will update the next time it heartbeat-syncs with the server.

  • Manual registration: If the display was not pre-added, you can still register it during the wizard by scanning the provided QR code with a mobile device logged into Cortex.
