Using a USB-C cable to connect your laptop to Riva

USB-C (USB 3.1 Gen 2) offers the opportunity to have both video signal, touch feedback and even charging of your connected device using a single USB-C cable. This replaces the need for two cables when connecting your laptop to a touchscreen via HDMI + USB-Type B cable.

However, HDMI has the benefit that it can be used with very long cables, and USB-C cables have a limited length before they lose connectivity (below 1 meter is considered safe).

When using HDMI follow these steps to have both video and touch control

  • Touch out 1 connects to HDMI 1

  • Touch out 2 connects to HDMI 2

  • Touch out 3 connects to HDMI 3, DP & VGA

Before starting

Important: Not all devices and not all USB-C cables support video being transmitted.

Most standard USB-C ports and cables are for simple charging or file transfer. Ensure that the connected device supports the same functions as our Riva model offers:

  • Touch: All USB-C ports will support this so don't worry

  • Video: ensure your PC/Mac supports DP Alt mode. often the USB-C port is marked with a  image-20260102-133942.png symbol.

  • Charging: your device is able to be charged via USB-C instead of using the original AC/DC adapter that was supplied with it.

Thunderbolt 3 connectors are marked with mceclip1.png and will support all the functions mentioned above including high speed data transfer (10 Gb/s) and (quick) charging up to 100 Watt.

Instructions

  1. In the accessories box, you can find a USB-C cable which supports video signal, touch feedback and charging.

  2. Connect the cable between Windows notebook or MacBook and Riva series display.

  3. Switch the Riva display to USB-C input from the Quick Menu. You open the Quick Menu by pressing on the physical button at the bottom of the display in the middle.

  4. Riva will show the signal from your Windows notebook or MacBook and will also support touch control of your laptop from the Riva.

    1. For Windows devices touch feedback supports 32 points of touch via USB-C

    2. For macOS devices (Macbooks, iMacs, etc), by default, only 1 point of touch is supported. In order to make advantage of multi touch inputs and gestures, you need to install UPDD driver for Mac. How to install and enable UPDD driver on Mac is described here: Enable touch on Apple / Mac laptops (UPDD driver)
