Connecting via USB-C on Riva R2 - Laptop to Display

Summary of video

  • Connect USB-C: Plug your USB-C cable into your laptop and into a USB-C Input port on the side of the Riva R2 / D2 (e.g. USB-C 1)

  • Change source: Press the button on the front of the display, at the bottom under the CTOUCH logo. A Quick Menu will appear. From there tap on the dropdown at the top and select the matching source (e.g. USB-C 1)

Limitations of USB-C

USB-C has benefits over HDMI: You only need one cable for touch and video to work (HDMI needs an extra USB cable). However, USB-C has these shortcomings:

  • Cable video limitations: Not all USB-C cables are compatible with video. You need a cable with DisplayPort (DP) technology for it to work.

  • Laptop issues: Not all USB-C ports on laptops/computers have DisplayPort (DP) technology and will not transmit video. In most cases these ports are meant for charging.

  • Short cables: Any USB-C cable meant for video may have issues if the cable gets longer than 1 meter.

For this reason we recommend you use the included USB-C cable of your Riva R2 / D2.

Troubleshoot

  • Renamed: If you do not see your source, it may have been renamed by your IT / Facilities team.
